The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) in the U.S. Department of Justice announced several available FY2023 federal grant opportunities related to substance abuse, mental health, reentry, and veterans. Below are the grants where municipalities are eligible to apply, along with a description, applicable webinars, and application deadlines. Please note that these grant opportunities require a two-step application process through separate federal grant systems administered by grants.gov and justgrants.gov.

Permitted Uses for National Opioid Settlement Distributor Settlement Agreement

As we shared in the July 8 Weekly Round Up, first payments to participating municipalities from the National Opioid Settlement are ready to send. Participating municipalities should be on the lookout for email communications coming from the settlement’s Directing Administrator, BrownGreer PLC, asking municipalities to establish accounts in the National Opioid Settlements Portal. The Portal will be the primary means for participating municipalities to submit information and documentation to BrownGreer. Once the necessary information is uploaded into the Portal, payment can be made to your municipality.

Governor Murphy Signs Package Legislation to Combat Opioid Epidemic

On Friday shortly before the start of the July 4th holiday, Governor Phil Murphy signed a legislative package to Address Opioid Epidemic. The bills fall broadly into three categories – Increase in Harm Reduction Services, Data Collection and Resiliency for Family and Children.
