The NJ Board of Public Utilities (NBPU) is now accepting applications for its $5 million Urban Heat Island Mitigation Program. Municipalities can get grants in three tiers to help cut energy costs.
The program funds three grant tiers: two Comprehensive Interventions of up to $1 million each for large‐scale green infrastructure, cool pavements, or misting systems; four Built-Environment Upgrades of up to $500 thousand each for cool/green roofs, geothermal heat pumps, or resilient cooling centers; and twenty Micro-Climate Projects of up to $50 thousand each for shaded bus stops, community gardens, water stations, and other spot-cooling solutions.
All projects must be on public or publicly accessible land. For updates, eligibility details, and application instructions, visit www.nj.gov/bpu.
