Natural Climate Solutions Grants Offered on Rolling Basis

Grants Posted on October 15, 2025

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is offering a second round of Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) grants to help municipalities, counties, and nonprofits implement on-the-ground projects that sequester carbon and enhance climate resilience. Funded through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), this program supports restoration and enhancement of natural carbon sinks such as salt marshes, seagrass beds, forests, urban parks, and street trees.

Municipal applicants can use this funding to construct living shorelines, expand tree cover in environmental justice communities, and restore degraded ecosystems. This round makes $30 million available, beyond the $24 million awarded in the first round. Eligible applicants include local governments, school boards, universities, and nonprofits.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with decisions typically issued within 120 days of submission. Full program details and application instructions are available on NJDEP’s official NCS grant page.
