The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is now accepting applications for its Rediscovering Our Revolutionary Tradition program, a national initiative honoring the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. This program supports efforts to preserve and expand access to primary source materials that document the history of America’s founding era. Municipalities can use this opportunity to safeguard early American civic records and ensure that records remain accessible to residents.
Eligible activities include conservation and rehousing of fragile documents, digitization and description of historical materials, transcription and translation of handwritten records, and updates to existing digital collections for long term public availability.
The deadline to apply is January 16, 2026, and municipalities can apply at www.grants.gov or the NEH website.
