On June 16, the Assembly State and Local Government Committee amended and released A-5240, which concerns local unit budget processes and related operations. This legislation, which the League supports, makes various changes to local budget law and local officials’ certifications laws to codify existing practices and update the fines.
The committee amendments change the effective date of the bill to immediately, but would apply to the next local fiscal year beginning after the effective date.
The Senate companion, S-3941, was discussed at a recent Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee, but no action was taken.
