Last week, the U.S. Senate passed the Fire Grants and Safety Act by a vote of 88-2 with Senator Booker voting in favor and Senator Menendez not voting. The bill passed the House of Representatives on May 8, 2024, and now heads to the President’s desk for his consideration.
The Fire Grant and Safety Act will provide a five-year reauthorization for the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), the Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) Program, and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant (SAFER) Program.
This legislation was championed in the House of Representatives by New Jersey Congressmen Tom Kean and Bill Pascrell who are leaders in the Congressional Fire Caucus.
When notices of funding opportunities are announced we will share that information.
