The partial federal government shutdown, which has been ongoing since October 1, is expected to end when the House passes the Senate short-term funding bill later on Wednesday. The government will reopen, and funding will be restored through January 30, 2026.
On Monday, the Senate passed a bill that funds the government through January 30 and funds the Department of Agriculture, the FDA, the Department of Veterans Affairs and military construction, and Congress through September 2026.
The House Rules Committee met on Tuesday and advanced the legislation. Barring any unforeseen developments, the full House is expected to vote on it by Wednesday evening.
The expiring health care subsidies, which were among the reasons why government funding lapsed, were not considered in this legislation and are being discussed and may be considered at a later date.
