The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) published a Notice of Substantial Change in the July 21, 2025, edition of the New Jersey Register. The DEP’s Notice provided responses to public comments received, updated scientific data, and other input on its original Resilient Environment and Landscapes (REAL) Rules. A public hearing regarding these changes will be held virtually on September 3, 2025, at 6:00 PM. A link to the virtual public hearing and more information about the live hearing can be found on the NJDEP’s website. The DEP’s Notice and response is followed by an additional 60-day period for public comment, which will close on September 19, 2025. The League will review the proposed changes, provide timely updates, and submit comments to the agency.
