After the measure failed in the same committee last week, on Sunday night, the House Budget Committee passed “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill” by a vote of 17-16 with 4 present votes. The present votes came from members who opposed the measure last week. The House Rules Committee is scheduled to consider the bill on Wednesday morning at 1:00 a.m. If favorably reported, it will be considered on the floor. As of Wednesday morning, the Budget Committee is still meeting to consider the legislation.
As we reported last week, there are several major outstanding issues, including the amount of the State and Local Tax (SALT) cap dedication increase, the timeline for Medicaid work requirements, and the federal cost share for programs like Medicaid. Given the narrow majority in the House, policy decisions could sway support.
Beyond the framework resolution, the Senate has not begun the reconciliation process. This situation remains fluid, and we will continue to report as details warrant.
