On August 5, the NJDEP introduced sweeping changes to land use regulations through the Resilient Environments and Landscapes (REAL) Rule proposal. The more than 1,000-page rule proposal will significantly impact municipalities across the state. Please read the League’s recent blog post with additional information on the rules and their potential impacts on municipalities. The League also held a Lunch & Learn on October 3 with experts to further explain these rules.
Our members are encouraged to review the REAL Rule proposal to better understand how these changes would impact your community. These specific concerns should be shared with NJDEP through the rule comment process, and we ask that you also share a copy of any comments sent to the NJDEP with the League.
The League has established a working group to review the REAL Rule proposal and plans to submit our own comments. Comments on the proposal are accepted through November 3, 2024. The NJDEP has indicated that final rules will be adopted in the summer of 2025.
