As you may be aware, the State Planning Commission has been engaging with stakeholders to update the New Jersey State Development and Redevelopment Plan (State Plan). As part of the update process, the Commission is currently drafting a Preliminary State Development and Redevelopment Plan.
In addition, the Commission is required to conduct a joint public informational meeting in every county with their county planning board i during the period beginning 45 days after the release of the Preliminary State Plan and ending no later than 90 days after release.
The State Plan has a tremendous impact on development and other land use practices within each municipality. Thus, robust municipal feedback is critical. The Commission’s rules, however, envision the counties as the negotiating entities representing both county and municipal interests. It is important that municipalities begin coordinating with their respective county planning boards to obtain information on the State Plan and to begin identifying issues and advancing improvements.
