The Assembly unanimously passed A-5567, which extends the useful life of certain vehicles under the Local Bond Law. The League supports this commonsense measure.
A-5567 expands the useful period of certain vehicles under the Local Bond Law, as follows:
- A fire truck from 10 years to 20 years.
- Vehicles based on gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) with:
- GVWR below 15,000 pounds to 5 years.
- GVWR in excess of 15,000 pounds to 10 years.
In addition, the bill expands the ability to bond for major repairs, reconditioning, or overhaul of certain vehicles to include public works vehicles with a GVWR in excess of 15,000 pounds and heavy equipment with a weight in excess of 10,000 pounds.
The bill, which would take effect immediately, awaits consideration by the full Senate.
