On Thursday, December 21, the Assembly approved A-4757, which expands the scope of the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to conduct surveys and repost data related to homelessness for the Rental Assistance Navigation program.
DCA would survey any newly evicted tenant who agrees to participate with questions concerning the demographic information, the ability of the individual to secure housing, the municipality which they were evicted from, where they intend to seek shelter, and their financial standing. DCA would also be required to refer newly evicted tenants to housing assistance and homelessness prevention services.
The bill would take effect immediately.
With the Senate and Assembly both unanimously passing the measure the bill now heads to Governor Murphy for his consideration.
The League supports this legislation because it provides a tool to assist in creating solutions for homeless individuals.
