Conference Connections: Informational Roundtables


As you plan for the 109th Annual Conference, we would like to call to your attention a new feature introduced this year.  For the first time, there will be a handful of more informal roundtable programs over topics and items of interest.    By design, these programs are less structured, have more information, and are intended to create discussion and networking among local officials.  All roundtables will be held in Room 307 of the Atlantic City Convention.   Please see the list below.

9 a.m.  Roundtable: Local Strategies to Deal with Opioids in Our Communities

Madison Mayor Robert Conley will discuss a regional shared service with multiple towns and the Essex County/Morris County Mental Health Association called the ARRIVE Program. They provide mental health professionals and social workers who respond along with the police to issues with substance abuse. Then the professionals continue case management and services to the individual/family.  

10:45 a.m.  Roundtable: Drones, East Orange

East Orange Ted Green will facilitate a hands-on discussion of how his city has utilized drone technology.

2:00 p.m.  Roundtable: Fireside Chat with the State DOT

Do you have any questions for the State Department of Transportation? Here’s your chance.  Also, staff will discuss many of the Department’s initiatives.

3:45 p.m.  Roundtable: Dealing with Pop-up Events

Seaside Heights Mayor Heights and other impact Mayors will discuss their solutions to the unanticipated pop-up events that impacted shore communities this past summer.  Learn how you can do those lessons and use them in your community.

This session will introduce the National Forum for Black Public Administrators Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Program.
