[ARCHIVED] Federal Budget Update

The continuing resolution to fund the federal government expired Friday. On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed a $1.5 trillion omnibus funding bill through September 30 and the Senate concurred later in the day. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the measure.

The spending bill includes member-directed spending. If you submitted a project to your Member of Congress, please reach out to them to see if your project was included.

The omnibus excluded President Biden’s request for $22 billion in further COVID-19 aid because the identified funding source for the additional COVID-19 aid was the second tranche of state recovery funds. There was objection from members from those states with the state recovery fund identified to fund the $22 billion. As a result, the House passed a $15 million standalone COVID-19 funding bill for testing, therapeutics, and to combat new variants but did not identify a funding source. It faces an uncertain fate in the Senate and was not acted on yesterday.
