Bernardsville Borough, Somerset

  • Walk and Talk with the Mayor
    When: April 7
    Where: Bernardsville Old Army Trail

    Explore the Borough's newest trail with the Mayor and Council members. Meet at 1 p.m. at the Audubon lower parking lot, Chestnut Ave. Dogs are welcome.

  • What Makes Bernardsville Special Photo Contest (JPEG)

    Residents can submit photos that exemplify what's best about living in Bernardsville on the event's Facebook Page. Photos are due by April 13 and winners announced at the 4/22 Council meeting.

  • Open House
    Where: Bernardsville Municipal Building, Route 202

    Drop by Borough Hall between 1:30 and 4:30 and meet the staff. Have "Coffee with a Cop" in the Courtroom or chat with the Mayor.

Chatham Borough, Morris

  • Welcome To Chatham Borough New Jersey April 12 & 13
    When: April 12, 8 am to 4 pm:

    Chatham Borough is hosting an “Open House” at Borough Hall, plus “Family Walking Tours” and “Coffee and Conversation” in the Central Business District. “The goal of (these events) is to welcome the public to get to know the different areas of our local government and to demonstrate how it works,” states Chatham Borough Council Member, Carolyn Dempsey. “We will have stations set up at Borough Hall for school groups (and residents) to rotate around. Among them are the outdoor ‘Touch a Truck’ stations highlighting our Department of Public Works, Fire and Police Departments and Emergency Services.”

    During the Open House, both students and residents will be able to tour the Police Department and jail, Council Chambers and other departments within the Borough. Popcorn and refreshments are planned, as well as a “scavenger hunt” and some take-away goodies.

    Residents will also have the opportunity to meet one on one with Borough Council members, explore the new Riverside Trail and walk the Urban Track. “We are very excited to participate in this inaugural event,” remarks Chatham Borough Council Member, Vicki Fife. “It is so important for residents to learn and understand the importance of local government. It will give everyone that participates an inside look at how the Borough operates on a daily basis.”

    9:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Walk the entire new Riverside Trail with Council Members (dogs welcome) — Meet at Shepard Kollock Field

    1:45 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Walk the Eastern portion of the Urban Track with Council Members (dogs welcome) — Meet at the Gazebo

Chester Township, Morris

  • Open House April 13

    Meet Chester Township employees and learn about Township services. Tour the Department of Public Works facility to see road equipment, and maybe even climb up into a snow plow. Deptford Township, Gloucester

  • Mock Council Meeting (JPEG)
    Deptford Township Mayor and Council invite local middle and high school students to the Deptford Township Municipal Building to participate in a Mock Council Meeting. The students will be given a tour of the police department, township clerk's office and tax office.

East Brunswick, Middlesex

  • Beautification Day (JPEG)

    Eat pizza with police, find voter registration info, sign up for Revenue ACH direct payments, learn what’s recyclable, explore Recreation activities, view a water/sewer demo, visit the Municipal Art Gallery, and register with Shop East Brunswick to save on property taxes.

  • Planning & Engineering Open House & Homeowner’s Workshop
    (At Senior Center) - learn about the permitting process and ask the professionals questions

Evesham Township, Burlington

  • Town Bus Tour
    To kick off their week long series of what is happening in town, take a quick look to where the Township started. There will be a brief bus tour showcasing our downtown area and also some of Evesham’s historical treasures still here today. Tour begins/ends at the Gibson House, leaving at 1pm, 1:30pm and 2pm.
  • Township Expo
    Visit the Gibson House for a Township Expo! There will be representatives from some township departments and local non-profit groups. Don’t forget to pick up your “Township Crawl” information. Expo is from 6-7:30pm.
  • Day 1 "Township Crawl"
    Begin Day 1 of the “Township Crawl” and come visit the Municipal Building to tour the Police Department, the Evesham Library and also the Fire Department will be present. 6-7:30pm
  • Day 2 "Township Crawl"
    Day 2 of the “Township Crawl” takes you for a visit through the Center for the Arts in Southern New Jersey on Elmwood Road. Next door you will have an opportunity to see the Indian Spring Country Club and the Department of Golf, Recreation & Open Space. 6-7:30pm.
  • Day 3 "Township Crawl"
    Day 3 of the continued “Township Crawl” will take you on a “nature talk” through Black Run Preserve, a 1300-acre gem located right here in Evesham on Kettle Run Road! Weather permitting. 6-7:30pm.
  • Final Day "Township Crawl"
    Day 4 and the conclusion to the “Township Crawl.” Visit Memorial Park, the Blue Barn and the award winning Diamonds at Arrowhead Park. Participants will also pass by the dog parks! Weather permitting. 6-7:30pm
  • Council Cares
    This meet and greet of the leaders of Evesham Township will take place at Kain Park (Main St & So Locust) in Downtown Historic Evesham from 2-3pm.

Garwood Borough, Union

Glen Rock Borough, Bergen

  • Touch A Truck
    Vehicles from our police force, fire department, ambulance corp and DPW we on display for residents, young and old, to explore and enjoy. The police were kind enough to give tour of their headquarters. A great day was had by all!
  • Local Government 101
    Councilmembers Mary Barchetto and Arati Kreibich gave an informative presentation about how local government works to AP Government students of Glen Rock High School.

Long Branch City, Monmouth

    Mayor Robert H. Conley will read a proclamation recognizing NJ Local Government Week and encourage all residents to support, celebrate and learn more about local government. A local Boy Scout Troop will be leading the Pledge of Allegiance

    Main Street Submarines Deli;Residents are invited to join elected officials, on three separate mornings from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. over a cup of coffee to discuss issues and learn more about each other.
  • Mayors Leadership Forum
    Where: Hartley Dodge Memorial Building, 50 Kings Road, Madison, NJ 07940

    Students in grades 5-8 are invited to participate in this one hour mock council session, where they will, in an advanced setting, learn what it's like to be on the Madison Borough Council, all while conducting official business.

    Grades 5 & 6 will participate on Tuesday, April 9th from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
    Grades 7 & 8 will participate on Thursday, April 11th from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

  • Learn about our elected officials

    Follow the Borough of Madison on their social media platforms to learn what local government means for their seven elected officials (Mayor and 6 Council Members). Each day they will post a spotlight on one elected official.

    North Bergen High School's Environmental Club students are participating in a local Community Clean-Up event sponsored by NJ Clean Communities on Monday, April 8, 2019 from 9:30am to 2pm

  • NJ Local Government Week Open House
    When: April 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    Where: City Hall: 512 Springfield Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901

    The City of Summit is hosting a community Open House on Thursday, April 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., joining municipalities from across the state in a week-long celebration to raise awareness about the importance of local government and the role it plays in achieving the best life for communities. City staff and community volunteers will share information on municipal services, facilities, and equipment, as well as volunteer initiatives and opportunities. Tours of the Police Department at 3:30 p.m. and the Fire Department at 4:30 p.m. will be conducted. The Office of the City Clerk will lead a mock council meeting with Summit High School students assuming the role of elected officials at 4 p.m.. The Office of the Mayor is sponsoring an essay contest among eighth graders from Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School with the prompt: How my Local Government Impacts me and my Family. The selected student will be awarded honorary Mayor for the Day status on Thursday, April 11, 2019. View the Open House flyer (PDF).
