TOMORROW - MUNICIPAL AND SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERS WILL UNITE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN NEW JERSEY COMMUNITIES
The NJLM Educational Foundation, Inc. will join with the New Jersey Department of Education to present a half day-long special conference on “The New Education Order: School Consolidation, Construction, Funding and Preschool Expansion.” Mayors, Members of Councils, Municipal Clerks and Administrators will meet their counterparts from school districts all around the State on:
Friday, September 19, 2008
9:00 am to 1:30 p.m.
Middlesex County College
2600 Woodbridge Avenue
Edison, NJ 08818-3050
At that time, over 150 local elected officials will be briefed on key statutory and regulatory reforms in public education.
After NJLM Education Foundation Vice President and Edison Mayor Jun Choi sets the stage, Education Commissioner Lucille Davy and DCA Commissioner Joe Doria will speak to our Opening Session. Participants will then have opportunities to go deeper into key aspects of the new order at Breakout Sessions focusing on School Funding, Preschool Expansion, School Construction and Consolidation, CORE Reforms and Shared Grant Opportunities.
In years past, many public officials had asked the League to create special programming and analysis, focusing less on the mechanics of running a local government day-to-day and more on larger, policy issues. In 2004, as a response, the League’s Executive Board authorized the creation of an educational foundation. The League of Municipalities Educational Foundation was incorporated in September 2004. The purpose of the Foundation is to conduct, encourage and support in-depth educational programs for local government officials and employees. At the same time, this work will add to the public knowledge, inform critical decision-making and benefit all the citizens of New Jersey.
