League Welcomes Senate Hearing on Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Problems and Possibilities During the Economic Downturn and as a Result of New Jersey’s Budget Gap
Today in Trenton, Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Van Drew welcomed mayors, council members, economic development professionals and business representatives from nearly twenty municipalities, located all around our Garden State. The Committee heard testimony concerning the recommended modifications to the Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) program proposed in the Governor's FY 2011 budget.
We commend the Committee and Chairman Van Drew for taking the initiative in inviting those who have used the UEZ process to foster economic development and jobs creation, where and when it was needed most. And we commend the mayors and elected officials who came to Trenton, for their willingness to work with State policy makers, in these trying times.
In our current crisis, citizens expect all of their elected representatives to work together toward effective solutions to their pressing problems. And they deserve nothing less.
