NJLM Education Foundation Rewards Readers and Thanks Sponsors
On Monday May 14, representatives of the League of Municipalities’ Educational Foundation, along with officials from Rowan University and sponsors of this year’s Mayors’ Book Club, held the last in a series of events. The program, held at the Dorothy L. Bullock Elementary School in Glassboro, celebrated the accomplishments of over 300 first graders who participated in this year’s Book Club.
A total of 156 students read 1,856 books under the guidance of 7 amazing teachers.
Municipal leaders presented certificates of accomplishment to the students who had read the most books. Glassboro Mayor and NJLM Executive Board Member Leo McCabe hosted the event. League President, Mayor Art Ondish of Mount Arlington, who also serves as President of the League of Municipalities’ Educational Foundation, shared his comments. In addition, Rowan University officials, including Dr. Jane Bean-Folkes, Assistant Professor, Language, Literacy and Special Education, who serves as project coordinator, was joined by speakers representing major funders. These included Anna Lustenberg, Director-External Affairs, Verizon; South Jersey Industries’ President Jeffrey DuBois; and Deb Spinella from SJI’s Office of Government and Regulatory Affairs. A Government Affairs representative from PSEG was unable to attend.
