League Executive Board Adopts Resolution Supporting MAINSTREET Economic Stimulus Priorities
Meeting yesterday in Trenton, our Executive Board adopted the attached resolution, which supports federal priority spending for programs promoting economic recovery by investing in local government. This initiative was sponsored by our Immediate Past President, Mayor Bob Bowser of East Orange.
Our Board asks you to consider adopting your own municipal resolutions, so that we can encourage our New Jersey United State Senators and our Congressional Delegation to take the lead in promoting these priorities. Working together in our Nation’s Capital, our National League of Cities and the U.S. Conference of Mayors are doing all that they can. Our help with New Jersey’s elected representatives could be crucial to fast action on this MAINSTREET stimulus plan.
Please send a copy of your resolution to your Federal Legislators, to the National League of Cities (1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Suite 550 · Washington, DC 20004) and another to the U.S. Conference of Mayors (1620 Eye Street, Northwest - Washington, DC 20006). We also urge you to visit the Conference website (http://www.usmayors.org/) and the National League of Cities website (http://www.nlc.org/index.aspx) and send them an e-mail listing public works projects in your municipality that could be started in 2009.
Staff in Washington needs to quantify project costs, jobs estimates, etc. in order to demonstrate the need for and the value of a major infusion of dollars, directly to municipalities.

Very truly yours,
Mayor, Hope Township
