NJLM’s 2009 State Legislative Priorities

Dear Mayor:

The attached is a brochure provided to you as a service. It provides a brief statement of the League’s major State Legislative Priorities for 2009.

The League’s Legislative Relations staff spends most of their time working on specific bills. And most of the correspondence that originates with them is similarly focused. But this brochure is something different. For this, we asked them to take a step back in order to survey the big picture. They identified four broad areas of concern. They carefully analyzed these issues. Then, they boiled their analysis down to a concise summary of the challenges and opportunities that rise before us.

We hope you find this helpful, as you, yourself, evaluate State policy proposals that emerge during the Second Annual Session of New Jersey’s Two Hundred Thirteenth Legislature, leading up to, and beyond, next year’s gubernatorial and Assembly elections.

To be effective in our State Capital, we need your help. If you’d like to get more involved in our Legislative efforts, please consider joining the League’s Legislative Committee, which meets about ten times a year, to develop positions on important bills effecting local government. If you are interested in this opportunity, contact League Executive Director Bill Dressel at 609-695-3481, ext. 122 or at

Stay informed. Stay involved. And stay in touch with your own State Legislators on the issues important to you and to your fellow citizens.

Thank you for all that you do to make this State a better place.

                                                                        Very truly yours,

                                                                        William G. Dressel, Jr.
                                 Executive Director
