RE:     CONFERENCE WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS

Dear Mayor:

At the request of Secretary of State, Nina Mitchell Wells, you are receiving this MAYORS’ FAX ADVISORY.  She is extending an invitation to a League Workshop, titled “Economic Impact of Travel and Tourism,” offered at the 93rd Annual 2008 Conference.   

The workshop will encompass a lively discussion regarding the impact of travel and tourism in your community.  Panelists are Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells, Diana St. John, Marketing Director, Count Basie Theatre, and Ira Rosen, President and CEO, Entertainment on Location, Inc.  The workshop is presided by Randy Brown, Mayor of Evesham, and Member of League Executive Board.  The scheduled day and date is Tuesday, November 18, 2008, from 3:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. is in Room 410 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.  Learn more about New Jersey travel and tourism at www.visitnj.org, and for the handout, visit the League’s website at http://njslom.org/93rdconf/93rd-conf-main.html, CONFERENCE SESSIONS.

Another important topic, The Municipal Housing Liaison Comes of Age,” that will provide valuable information is the League Joint Session with Tax Collectors and Treasurers, Government Finance Officers, and New Jersey Planning Officials, titled “Techniques to Comply with the New COAH Regulations,” also offered at the conference.

This session will discuss the latest regulations, implementation, and monitoring of affordable housing and housing trust funds.  The focus of the seminar is to orient municipal tax assessors, tax collectors, treasurers, and finance officers as their role in affordable housing.  Panelists are Lucy Vandenberg, Executive Director, COAH State Department of Community Affairs, Shirley M. Bishop, Professional Planner/Consultant, Shirley M. Bishop, LLC, Frank Piazza, President, Affordable Housing Professionals of New Jersey, and Edwin "Ed" W. Schmierer, Mason, Griffin & Pierson, PC, League Counsel.  The session is presided by Mark W.
