Dear Mayor:
The second public
hearing of the NJ Property Tax Convention Task Force will
be held:
|
Wednesday,
October 6, 2004
7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Mercer County Community College
Conference Center Auditorium
West Windsor, NJ
|
Directions to the college can be accessed at their website,
at http://www.mccc.edu/welcome_directions.shtml.
The League will
be represented by Scotch Plains Mayor
Martin Marks, who also serves as a member of our
Property Tax Reform Committee. We encourage other interested
municipal officials to come to speak, or just to listen.
The Task Force needs to hear what you are thinking about
the technical questions that they must address.
The Task Force's
focus will be on the mechanics of the proposed convention,
not on the issue of whether or not a convention is needed.
That has been decided.
Mechanics include: the scope of the convention, including
definition of issues and possible restrictions on remedies;
delegate qualifications; delegate election process; timing
of elections and convention; delegate compensation; operation
and rules of the convention; and form of recommendations.
The Task Force has launched its own website at http://www.nj.gov/convention/index.html.
You can visit there to keep current on the latest Task Force
developments. The site also links to a forum, where you
can register your thoughts on the mechanics of the proposed
convention.
You can also
visit our website at www.njslom.com for information on these
and other issues. Please let us know if you intend to testify
and, if so, please provide us with a copy of your prepared
remarks. And, if you have any questions or comments, please
contact Jon Moran at jmoran@njslom.com
or at 609-695-3481, ext. 21.
