RE: Complete Count Committee for 2010 Census
As many of you are aware, next year marks one of the largest civic engagement events that will significantly impact our state – the 2010 Census.
The fairness of Congressional redistricting, federal funding opportunities and State legislative districting are all dependent on a successful and accurate count of our population. Every year, the federal government allocates more than $435 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data.
With the well-being of our state in mind, the League created the 2010 Census Awareness Committee, which I am privileged to serve as its Chairman.
One of the Committee’s main initiatives is to encourage all municipalities to form a Complete Count Committee (CCC). The local Complete Count Committee is a team of dedicated community leaders, which will be tasked to develop and implement a locally-based outreach and awareness campaign for the 2010 Census. This team’s primary focus is to promote the 2010 Census – across all sectors of our communities – and to ensure that every resident in that area is counted.
I urge you to form your own CCC, if you have not already done so, and ensure that New Jersey and our respective municipalities reap the benefits of an accurate Census count. For more information about the CCC, you may review the Complete Count Committee Guide, which can be found on the League’s website. (www.njslom.org/2010_census_main.html)
To show your support, we ask that you, as the highest elected official in your city/town, issue a resolution in support of the 2010 Census. We have included a Draft Resolution, for your consideration. For more information, please contact:
