It has come to our attention that Ameripay, a payroll company used by municipalities as well as other public entities in New Jersey, is under investigation for fraud by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). It is alleged that the principals of Ameripay failed to meet payroll obligations of Ameripay clients and also failed to make in excess of 8 million dollars in federal and state tax deposits on behalf of clients. Towns and school boards would wire Ameripay monies to do payroll and to pay federal and state payroll deposits, but the company did not do so.
Since this issue was brought to our attention, we have been working closely with Governor Jon Corzine’s office to ensure that municipalities have the best and most up-to-date information on how to get help.
If your community is dealing with Ameripay, there are two points of contact for you to receive help. For issues related to payroll accounts and how to go about trying to recover/protect funds, you should contact the receiver appointed in the SEC civil case. His name and contact info is:
