US Green Building Council-NJ honors League’s Mayors Committee For A Green Future

On Thursday May 21 The US Green Building Council-NJ (USGBC) celebrated its 3rd Annual “Building a Greener New Jersey” Gala at the Wyndham Worldwide Headquarters  in Parsippany NJ. The State League of Municipalities Mayors Committee for a Green Future (MCGF) was honored as one of the 2009 award recipients for the Sustainable New Jersey Project:  Innovation in Green Product or Service Award.

Accepting the Award (l to r) was Maplewood Deputy Mayor Fred Profeta, MCGF chair, League Executive Director, William Dressel, Mayor Arthur Ondish, Mount Arlington, Member of the MCGF and Member of the League Executive Board and Florence Block, Executive Director of the US Green Buildings Council-NJ.

New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine was among the honorees with a lifetime Achievement Award for his distinguished career accomplishments in promoting NJ Green Policy both as US Senator and Governor. (DEP Commissioner Mark Mauriello accepted on the Governor’s behalf). Also featured Guest Speaker was Dierdre Imus Founder and President of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology at Hackensack University Medical Center and author of best-selling Green This! Book series.

“It’s important to recognize the accomplishments of individuals, businesses and local governments for extraordinary environmental practices and commitment to sustainability for New Jersey.” Said Florence Block, Executive Director, USGBC NJK, “These pioneers of green innovation are setting an example that will inspire countless others to make and investment in the future that will pay dividends for generations to come.”

Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Jersey City, Member, State League of Municipalities Executive Board accepts the 2009 Community/Municipal Award for his many accomplishments this past year in promoting sustainability practices in design and practice in Jersey City.
