Re: A-1645/S-770 - Qualified Purchasing Agent
Dear Mayor:
On May 21, by a vote of 49-25 with 2 abstentions, the General Assembly released the bill which requires you to appoint a qualified purchasing agent, A-1645/S-770. The bill was previously approved by the State Senate and it now sits on the Governor’s desk.
The League wrote Governor Corzine today and requested a veto of this legislation, based on the fact it is an unfunded state mandate and unnecessary.
If you have not done so already, we recommend that you also contact the Governor’s Office to request a veto and express concerns of your municipality. You can direct your correspondence to:
William Castner, Esq,
Chief Counsel, Office of the Governor
Statehouse, PO Box 001
Trenton, NJ 08625
Fax: (609) 777-0393
Please copy the League on any correspondence you send.
For more on this legislation, please see our Dear Mayor letter of May 18.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
