SCS for S-2269 & 2289 (Sales Tax Exemptions) |
Dear Mayor:
Since March 5, the Senate Committee Substitute (SCS) for S-2269 & S-2289 has been at Second Reading in the Assembly. This bill would exempt from the Sales and Use Tax membership fees and dues charged by municipal, county, and nonprofit health and fitness, athletic, sporting, and shopping clubs and organizations in New Jersey as well as for municipal and county parking, storing, and garaging services. In addition, the substitute provides an exemption from the Sales and Use Tax for the initiation fees of all clubs and organizations, regardless of their membership restrictions or profit status.
This bill would implement two resolutions passed last November at our Annual Conference. Resolution 1 called for an exemption for municipal parking services and Resolution 16 dealt with other municipal services. You can access these and all of our Resolutions at http://www.njslom.org/press_release_12-19-06.html.
It appears that the Legislature is awaiting an indication from the Administration on its concerns, prior to any further action. Now is the time to contact your Members of the General Assembly to indicate your strong support for this common sense relief. We will need to rebuild momentum for this important legislation, and it needs to begin with you contacting your representatives in Trenton.
If you have any questions on this, please call Jon Moran at 609-695-3481, ext. 121.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
