Re:   Important Briefing on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009

(Our two US Senators and Governor have arranged a day long briefing for you and your staff to explain the various funding opportunities under the Federal Stimulus program.  The League has repeatedly requested this kind of meeting and we are delighted that this will happen on May 18th.  Please distribute this information to your fellow Elected Officials and appropriate Department Heads.

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director

Dear Mayor:

We have all been affected by the worst economic recession of our lifetime. Budgets have been slashed and services have had to be cut back. Here in New Jersey, Governor Jon S. Corzine recognized very early the severity of this downturn. That is why last year he put together the New Jersey Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, which emphasized job creation and training, infrastructure improvement and rebuilding our schools. Earlier this year, Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009 both of which contained much needed funding and federal initiatives to help Americans get back to work and help get through this recession.

There have been many questions about the initiatives and funding opportunities within these recovery acts. In an effort to better serve you, the residents of New Jersey, we, along with the rest of the NJ Congressional Delegation have worked hard to ensure that you and the constituents you serve are well informed about the Recovery Act and the goals and missions of various federal agencies.  That is why we are pleased to invite you to a town hall meeting that will, for the first time, bring together all appropriate State and Federal agencies to provide important information and answer your questions on how you and your organization can best access federal assistance.

We are confident that you will find the information provided extremely helpful. We have included an agenda for the town hall, along with the agencies represented. Participation is limited, so please RSVP by May 11th to GovernorCorzineRSVP@gov.state.nj.us.  Within your RSVP email, please indicate which session(s) you are most interested in attending so we are able to anticipate which sessions will need the most space.  If you have specific questions, please call Kellie Drakeford of Senator Menendez’s office at 973-645-3030 or Mike Maitland of Senator Lautenberg’s office at 856-338-8922.

We look forward to seeing you on May 18th at 8:45am in the War Memorial Theater in Trenton.  Please see attached agenda.

Sincerely,

Jon S. Corzine
