Re: CORRECTED COPY
Water/wastewater Annexes to LEPs

Dear Mayor:

The League and the Association of Environmental Authorities are collaborating on infrastructure security issues. It has come to our attention that the protection of water and wastewater facilities was not been a part of Local Emergency Operations Plans in the past. Prudent planning considerations for protection of critical facilities should certainly include local water and wastewater installations.

For this reason, we ask that you inform your Local Emergency Management Coordinator to contact the appropriate water/wastewater authorities in your community to take part in any planning efforts.

A list of communities with authority managed facilities can be found on the web site of the Association of Environmental Authorities under the section entitled "Find your Authority." The contact person and telephone number are supplied for your convenience. http://www.aeanj.org.

Authorities have trained personnel, equipment, generators and more to support any emergency recovery efforts underway in your community. Please consider authorities as a resource in your emergency management planning efforts. Water and wastewater operations will require some essential personnel to maintain the system and to travel to pump stations during red alerts.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

Ellen Gulbinsky
Executive Director
Assn. of Environmental Authorities
