Surcharge to Offset Property Tax Increases |
Dear Mayor:
In order to partially fund costs associated with State Directive 15 (which mandates new security requirements in municipal courts) and the imposition of new costs for state policing services in municipalities, we are asking the legislature to enact a new surcharge on all motor vehicle fines, authorized by P.L. 2007, c. 335 (C.39:2A-36.1). Those new revenues would be used by the State to fund state policing services and by municipalities to offset additional court security expenses.
To assist us in this lobbying effort we are asking that you consider passing the enclosed resolution. Copies should be sent to your legislative delegation, Governor’s office and the League of Municipalities.
In the near future we will be working with potential legislative sponsors to have legislation introduced and enacted when the legislature reconvenes in May.
Your assistance and cooperation is appreciated. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me at (609) 695-3481 ext. 122.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
