RE: State Property Tax Relief Numbers
The Division of Local Government Services has posted municipal property tax relief figures for each municipality. You access your information at http://www.state.nj.us/dca/lgs/muniaid/aidmenu.shtml
After we have analyzed this information, we will provide you with that. In the meantime, as indicated in our March 9 letter (http://www.njslom.org/ml031009-budget-message.html) on the Governor’s Budget Address, we will be asking for mandates relief this year. As you go through your budgets, please look for examples of unfunded mandates.
Please e-mail a description of those mandates to Jon Moran at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will compile them in a request to the Administration and the Legislature for omnibus mandates relief.
It won’t cost the State a penny to relax or eliminate some of the many mandates that have been imposed, legislatively and administratively, over the course of decades. These mandates drive up the costs of local government and force local budget makers to address a laundry list of State priorities, before they can even begin to plan on how best to meet the local need for vital municipal programs and services.
If you have any questions, call Moran at 609-695-3481, ext. 121.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
