Mayors Healthy Cook-Off May 7
On behalf of the Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC), I wanted to take this opportunity to invite you to an exciting and worthwhile event that will be taking place on May 7th in Woodbridge. On that day, the MWC will be holding its third “Mayors Healthy Cook-Off” at the Wegmans at 15 Woodbridge Center Drive from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The two previous cook-offs in Parsippany and West Deptford drew great crowds and considerable media coverage.
While we are still asking Mayors to compete for recognition in three categories – Best Tasting, Best Presentation, Healthiest and Best Overall – the Woodbridge event will have a different twist. Wegmans has generously agreed to donate all the ingredients for your dish. All of the cooking utensils you will need will also be provided. All you need to do is select a recipe and show up!
Wegmans is also encouraging participating mayors to go to its website (www.wegmans.com) if they need help coming up with a nutritious low-fat, low-calorie recipe. Wegmans’ “eat well. live well.” effort was developed in consultation with its team of nutritionists and the website contains hundreds of healthy recipes.
Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac has already agreed to participate and is challenging all mayors in Middlesex and Union Counties to join him.
The Mayors Wellness Campaign supports mayors as champions of community health. The goal is to increase opportunities for New Jersey residents to participate in daily physical activity with a long-term goal of reducing health care costs secondary to obesity. The MWC is an initiative of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (www.njhcqi.org) in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
If you are interested in participating in the Woodbridge MWC Mayors Healthy Cook-Off or if you simply have some questions, please contact MWC Director Judy Doyle at 609-393-4931 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
