Re:    New Jersey Clean Air Council Public Hearing, April 1, 2009

Dear Mayor:

The New Jersey Clean Air Council (Council) will hold its annual public hearing on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.  The topic of this year’s hearing is “Electricity Generation Alternatives for New Jersey's Future:  What is the Right Mix for Improving Air Quality and Reducing Climate Change?” The hearing will commence at 9:30 a.m. in the first floor Public Hearing Room at the Department of Environmental Protection, 401 East State Street, Trenton, NJ.

The Council is seeking information and public comment on methods to improve air quality by reducing air contaminant emissions from operations related to New Jersey’s seaports and airports. This includes, but is not limited to, ships, cranes, trucks, trains, planes, ground service equipment and other sources of air pollution resulting from port operations both on and off the port location. For more information, please go to http://www.nj.gov/dep/cleanair/

Anyone wishing to give a formal oral presentation is asked to reserve a 10-minute time period by March 20, 2009, by mailing, faxing or e-mailing name, title, organization, address and telephone number to Sonia Evans, NJDEP, Division of Air Quality, PO Box 027, Trenton, NJ 08625-0027; Fax 609-984-6369; sonia.evans@dep.state.nj.us. Presenters are asked to bring 25 copies of their remarks, including a summary of key information and recommendations, to the hearing.  The hearing record will remain open until April 30, 2009, to allow for the receipt of written testimony by all interested parties.  All submittals should be directed as noted above.

Very truly yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
