Use Your League
As Mayor of your municipality, you are directly responsible for stewarding local resources and directing your staff. As the Officers of your League of Municipalities, this year we are directly responsible for stewarding League resources and directing your staff in Trenton. Our mission is service to each of our State’s 566 Mayors. And our goal is to help you better govern your municipality.
First, let us remind you of some of the services we provide.
We have the largest municipal ordinance library in the State and publish a number of directories, surveys, salary reports and other materials of interest.
We offer an Annual Conference on municipal affairs which yearly attracts over 18,000 officials such as yourself.
Our legislative program protects the interests of municipal government in New Jersey.
We publish the only State magazine in the nation concerned with all facets of New Jersey local government; as well as many other useful publications for municipal officials, including the brand new, revised “Elected Officials Handbook” for 2007-2008.
We conduct educational seminars and workshops on a broad range of municipal topics.
The League Homepage is available to keep you informed on the hottest issues affecting municipal government – 24 hours a day – seven days a week. Our Homepage address is:
www.njslom.org. Check out our “Toolbox for Mayors and Council Members” for helpful articles.
Second, we want to ask you for your help. We need to know if our services are, in fact, helping you to serve your constituents. And we need to know which of your needs are not being met.
Please take a moment, over the next few weeks, to call League Executive Director, Bill Dressel, to comment on League services. We need to know, in the spirit of a former fellow Mayor, New York’s Ed Koch, “How are we doing?” And we need to know also, what we ought to be doing to prioritize League resources to better serve you and your constituents.
So please call Bill at (609) 695-3481, ext. 122 with your comments, concerns and suggestions. We sincerely appreciate your time and your assistance.
Very truly yours,
Hon. Robert L. Bowser
