At an early January meeting with the Governor’s Chief of Staff, League Officers raised a number of questions about the Governor’s “Financial Restructuring and Debt Reduction Initiative.” Those questions appear on our website, along with the Administration’s responses. Then, on January 16, Governor Corzine addressed the Mayors’ Legislative Day at the State House Annex and reviewed his plan to restructure the states finances. Most recently, the Governor is traveling the state in series of Town Hall meetings to gain support and input from the public.
As a municipal official, your input is very important. The League is continuing to review information and monitor the development of this plan as it takes shape in the form of legislation. Once introduced, the League will review the legislation. As part of that process we invite you to review the information gathered to date and send us your input on this important public policy.
Further, our Heavy Truck Task Force will soon meet with State Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri, regarding the impact of projected toll increases on local roads and traffic safety, and possible Administration efforts to mitigate those impacts. We will report on the results of that meeting in future correspondence. Take this opportunity to be heard. Thank you for your input on this critical question.
Very truly yours,
Robert L. Bowser
