Re:

(Draft Resolution) Proposed Revisions to Wrongful Death Act

Dear Mayor:

While we are very pleased with the Governor’s pocket veto earlier this week on the wrongful death bill (S176), we are quite aware the issue is far from being resolved.  As we understand, a revised bill is currently being drafted and slated for adoption in the next few weeks.

In anticipation of such legislative proposal, we do strongly urge your governing body to sanction and adopt the enclosed resolution opposing any revision to the wrongful death statute unless there is a specific “carve out” for local government.

Your prompt attention just a few days ago was instrumental in defeating this proposal. Now, we again urge your immediate attention in adopting this resolution and forwarding same to your Trenton delegation and Governor Corzine.

The issue remains our legitimate concern over ever increasing property taxes brought on by such legislation…well meaning though it may be.

As noted in previous correspondence, the League and the Municipal Excess Liability Joint Insurance Fund worked in close collaboration on this issue. Please also forward copies of your resolutions to:

Thank You.

                                                                        Very truly yours,
