RE: President Anzaldi Meets Governor-elect’s Chief-of-Staff; Salutes Incoming Legislative Leadership; Thanks Speaker Roberts and Senate President Codey; Attends State-of-the State

Dear Mayor:

Our League President, Mayor Jim Anzaldi of Clifton, began a busy day in Trenton by meeting with Governor-Elect Chris Christie’s Chief-of-Staff, Richard Bagger. League Executive Director Bill Dressel joined him at this meeting.

We remember Mr. Bagger’s service in the Legislature. He is a principled and prudent man who will serve the Governor and the people of New Jersey very well. Mayor Anzaldi assured him that the League is ready, willing, and able to assist the new Administration in meeting the needs of our fellow citizens and in making New Jersey the best place it can be. We start with these shared goals and with mutual respect. And we promise to share our perspective on the issues facing New Jersey and to give the new Administration the opportunity to communicate its priorities to local officials, working together through the League.

After the meeting, Mayor Anzaldi attended the Legislature’s historic re-organizational sessions.

“It was a privilege to be present as Assemblywoman Oliver took her oath as our new Speaker,” said the League President. “We congratulate her and thank her for her willingness to take the reins of the Assembly in these trying times. She is the first African-American woman elected to preside in either House. We may have taken too long to reach this milestone, but I am very proud that my State is finally here. We look forward to working with Speaker Oliver on all issues important to New Jersey local governments and our property taxpayers.”

Mayor Anzaldi also commented on our new Senate President. “We really want to congratulate Senator Sweeney. He has always been willing to consider the municipal perspective on the issues important to us all. And we sincerely appreciate that. We look forward to continuing the great working relationship that we have developed over the years.”

Mayor Anzaldi also thanked Speaker Roberts and Senator Codey for all they have done for the people of New Jersey, throughout their tenure in leadership.

Mayor Anzaldi then was present when Governor Corzine delivers his final State-of-the-State address.

“As always, I look forward to the Governor’s perspective on our current crisis. We salute Governor Corzine,” said Mayor Anzaldi. “He and his team deserve our thanks for their tireless dedication to the people of New Jersey.”

We will provide you with an analysis of the Governor’s State-of-the State speech, as well as an update on any bill signings, tomorrow.

Very truly yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
