Re:   Census Opportunities

Dear Mayor:

Evesham Mayor Randy Brown, Chairman of our 2010 Municipal Census Awareness Committee, met last week with Census Bureau Senior Partnership Specialist Geraldine Clark. As a result of that meeting, Mayor Brown wanted us to advise you of some important opportunities.

First, the Census Bureau will be hiring individuals to assist with Address Canvassing during the Spring of 2009. Interested individuals in your municipality can make an appointment to apply for these openings, and for other temporary employment opportunities that the Bureau will need to fill from now up through Census Day, April 1, 2010. You can direct any interested constituents to the Bureau’s toll free employment information number, 1-866-861-2010 or the Census Bureau’s website, noted below.

Second, the Bureau will be represented at our 17th Annual Mayors’ Legislative Day on January 14, 2009, in Trenton. At that time, any mayors who are interested in signing an agreement to partner with the Census Bureau to ensure a complete count in their jurisdiction will be recognized and photographed with Mayor Brown, key Census Bureau officials and State leaders. Copies of the photo, along with a press release, will be forwarded to media outlets all around our Garden State to promote full participation in this decennial event. Once you sign the partnership agreement, you will also be included in our e-mail list and be assured of receiving all alerts and updates from Mayor Brown’s Census Awareness Committee.

Finally, Mayor Brown wants to encourage all of his fellow mayors to form their own “Complete Count Committees.” Such committees can help to mobilize local participation to ensure all the benefits of a complete census are enjoyed by your municipality and by our State for the next ten years.
