The Town of Boonton, if the budget is passed as proposed, will have the dubious honor of being number 1!!! in Morris County in lost aid ($484,000) for municipalities under 10,000 population. In addition Boonton is number 2!!!! in lost aid in the entire State of NJ for municipalities with under 10,000 population. Boonton is a blue collar town and the loss in aid as proposed will have a large impact on the residents (tax payers)in the form of increased taxes. Boonton currently like many smaller municipalities is sharing services in amny areas and is working with the county in sharing additional services and is frugal in otger areas so that the premise that additional cuts can be made is incorrect. The governing body will be passing a resolution opposing the governors proposed budget as presented. In our view the budget in part was formulated in this way so that pressure would be put on legislators by local municipalities who would then agree to support the governors Turnpike plan in return for negotiating on the budget.
