RE: U.S. Census “Door-to-door” Count Begins
Dear Mayor:
According to the Census Bureau, 72% of America’s households participated in this year’s census, by mail. Wisconsin ranked first with an 81% response rate, followed by Minnesota at 80%.
Here in New Jersey, we matched the National rate of 72%, with results ranging from Hunterdon County’s 80% rate, on top, to Cape May County’s 62%. If you want to see the rate at which your municipality responded to the mail-in survey, visit http://2010.census.gov/2010census/take10map/ .
On May 1, Census workers began the arduous task of visiting all who did not return their postal forms.
Now, it is important for the remaining households to open their doors to the Census workers involved in field work. We have two posters, available at our website, that you can down-load and post to help spread the word. You can access them at http://www.njslom.org/documents/NRFUAd.pdf and
http://www.njslom.org/documents/NRFUAd2.pdf.
Please do whatever you can to encourage your constituents to allow the Census field workers to complete this important, constitutionally required count.
Thank you.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
