RE: Impact of Federal Healthcare Reform on Local Governments
Last week, President Obama signed into law landmark Healthcare Reform legislation. This has been described, by both proponents and opponents of the initiative, as the most significant piece of Federal social legislation, since the “Great Society” Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts of the 1960’s.
Inevitably, the reforms will effect municipal government. Accordingly, we have posted on our website the first, of what will be a series, of memos analyzing the new reforms. The memo, which can be accessed at http://www.njslom.com/letters/NLC-health-care.html, was prepared by Neil Bomberg, who serves on the Federal Relations staff of our watchdog in Washington, the National League of Cities.
The memo includes the following sections:
- New Requirements for Employers
- Immediate Changes in Health Changes
- The Next Steps.
