Re: Two Issues

I. Time of Decision Passes Assembly
II. S-1 Released from Committee

Dear Mayor:

I. Time of Decision Passes Assembly

Despite strong opposition from municipalities, environmentalists and planning advocates, the General Assembly approved today, by a vote of 52-13, with 11 abstentions, S-82/A-437, which eliminates the time of decision rule.

The bill now heads to Governor Christie for his consideration.   We would suggest contacting the Governor’s office at 609-292-6000 and ask that the Governor veto the bill.   In the upcoming days, the League will be providing more to you on the League’s efforts to seek a veto of S-82/A-437.  For more information please see our Dear Mayor letters.

II. S-1 Released from Committee

The Senate Economic Growth Committee favorably released a Senate Committee Substitute (SCS) for S-1, which reforms the Fair Housing Act and abolishes the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH.)

Additional changes were made to the draft substitute discussed in our March 11 Dear Mayor letter.    We expect the new substitute to be available within a day or so, and we will post a link to the new bill, as well as provide a summary on the new provisions.

Questions on either of these issues can be directed to Mike Cerra at mcerra@njslom.com or at 609-695-3481 x120.

Very truly yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
