Re: S-2, S-3 and S4 Pension Reform Unanimously Passes Senate
During today’s Senate voting session, S-2, S-3 and S-4 were unanimously approved by the Senate. The League has strongly supported the bipartisan employee pension and health benefits reform package, S-2, S-3 and S-4. This reform is truly a cost saving measure that will lead to property tax relief, and is most welcomed by local officials.
Today, the Senate took an important step to provide property tax relief to our citizens. This necessary reform is the first, but important step, to providing a more equitable system for both enrollees and taxpayers. The League commends Senate President Sweeney for expeditiously moving this necessary reform forward, and we thank the long list of sponsors on both sides of the aisle.
We have reached out to Assembly Speaker Oliver and Assembly Leadership to address parity issues among the various pension systems, some of the unintended consequences that have arisen as a result of the reforms and the need for immediate relief in the 2010 budget. For more amplification on this please see our Dear Mayor Letter of February 9, 2010 and February 18, 2010.
I will continue to keep you update as these reforms move forward.
Very truly yours,
William G. Dressel, Jr.
