Re: OPRA & OPMA Bills before Senate Budget on Thursday
Notice was just given that the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee will consider S-1045, tomorrow. This bill makes various changes to the Open Public Meetings Act, to provide the public with greater access to meetings and information about meetings. Also on the agenda is S-1046, which makes certain access changes to the Open Public Records Act; establishes a State public finance website; creates a program for development of local websites; and makes an appropriation. We have also been informed that the bills will be amended. The League will provide you an analysis of the amendments in the upcoming days.
We suggest you contact the members of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee to express your concerns with the costs and administrative burdens that might still be included in this legislation.
The respective Assembly companion legislation, A-2699 and A-2697, are referenced to the Assembly Judiciary Committee. We do not anticipate the Assembly bills will be considered before the summer recess.
