Dear Mayor:

I.  NCL Free Training in the All American Conversation

Learn about the National Civic League training in the All-America Conversations.
National Civic League believes that engaging residents to bridge divides and build community, is so critical these days, that they are offering free one-on-one consultation calls to any community interested in holding an All-America Conversation or using the toolkit to inform your conversations. Email Aaron Leavy at the National Civic League (aaronl@ncl.org) to set up a time to talk about strategies for getting local conversations off the ground and discuss ways to adapt the All-America Conversation Toolkit to fit your local needs.  Furthermore, NCL is so committed to helping communities host these conversations that they are willing – on a case-by-case basis - to pay for their own travel and time to come to your community and help document or facilitate conversations.  Contact Aaron Leavy aaronl@ncl.org

II. League Professional Development Webinar

“Bail Reform: What It Means for Your Municipality Webinar”
April 28, 2017
11:00a.m.-12:15p.m.
Location: Your Computer

On January 2, 2017, New Jersey’s Bail Reform and Speedy Trial Act went into effect.  While the reform is likely to be a net positive for criminal defendants, it has and will continue to add to costs to municipalities and counties, not the least of which is increased overtime.  The speakers will explain how law enforcement agencies are affected by the reform with respect to manpower, and solutions that have been used by certain departments to defray costs.  Finally, the speakers will examine the negotiability under PERC and other legal ramifications of proposed changes associated with amending practices to save taxpayer dollars while still complying with the bail reform law.
