RE:  Weekly Policy Update/Pension and Health “Roadmap”

Municipal Clerk: Please forward a copy to all Governing Body Members

Dear Mayor:

Here’s a recap of major policy issues of interest to local governments.

Pension and Health Benefits “Roadmap” Update

As previously noted ( the League has been actively engaged in addressing the “Roadmap to Pension & Benefits Reform” Report. At this time, we would like to provide you a status report on the actions and plans the League Officers, Management Reform Chair and staff have been engaged in to address this urgent issue.

Recently, 1st Vice President Tempesta led a delegation to meet with Assembly Speaker Prieto to discuss the issue of pension reform & future of legislation and we continue to meet with other interested stakeholders to discuss concerns and possible alternate avenues to explore. Throughout this process, there have been regular conversations with key legislators as well as representatives from various labor groups.

In addition, we are in the process of collecting data on municipal health benefits.  Please ensure that your Administrator or Chief Financial Officer has completed the survey on health benefits.  The survey is available at:

For municipalities participating in State Health Benefits Plan

For municipalities not participating in the State Health Benefits Plan

We are continuing our meetings and gathering of research relative to best approach to protecting the local pension funds which are fiscally sound.  The League Officers and staff continue to be directly engaged in responding to the proposals impacting the pension systems. We will keep you informed of any developments.
