Re:  PROPERTY TAX IN NEW JERSEY

Dear Mayor:

Has anyone ever asked you why property taxes in New Jersey are so high? No? Well, if anyone ever does, you can refer them to the League’s short and straightforward “Property Tax in New Jersey” brochure.  Last printed in 2012, but still current today, it has been posted on our website at http://www.njslom.org/tax_brochure.html.  I invite you to share this brochure with others in your administration and with your taxpayers.

We are hopeful that this overview of the situation will help you to better participate in the debate over this critical issue. As you are well aware, rising property taxes are a major factor in driving people away from New Jersey. The time has come to lower these regressive taxes with the help of state officials.

We hope that this brief and brilliant look at this issue will help the people of our State familiarize themselves with the history of the debate and the steps the League is currently taking to bring about property tax reform.   You may want to link this report to your municipal website, to assist in sharing this information with your constituents.

For a modest fee, additional copies can be reprinted by contacting Eric Bielawski at White Eagle Printing at ericb@whiteeagleprinting.com or (609) 586-2032 ext. 12.  For more information contact Jon Moran at (609) 695-3481 ext. 121 or jmoran@njslom.com

Very truly yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
