Two Years Later: Lessons & Opportunities in a Post-Sandy/Irene World
N.J. Mayor’s Summit on Resilient Design
When: Wednesday, October 29, 2014 Noon – 4:30pm
Where: Weston Hall Gallery, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Summit Street, Newark
What: NJIT’s Center for Resilient Design, in cooperation with the AIA Regional Recovery Working Group and NJ State League of Municipalities will host a summit on resilience to convene N.J. Mayors and other public officials, design professionals and others to address lessons and opportunities following natural and man-made disasters.
Through a series of presentations and frank discussions, local officials will bring actual challenges to the table and jointly explore opportunities to recover and rebuild in a more resilient manner. The Summit agenda will focus on Resources, Strategies and Solutions. Mayors should bring key staff and focus on implementation.
NJIT faculty and students will present resilient designs of buildings, infrastructure and communities, prompting responses and engagement by local, State and federal officials. This free event connects mayors and design professionals to make their communities more resilient.
Anticipated outcomes include identification of existing and potential funding, technical expertise and legal and regulatory changes to make communities more resilient. Mayors will gain tools necessary to make their communities more resilient.
