Re: Calling On All Mayors! Calling On All Employers! Organize a "Jeans for Troops" Drive at Work and Honor Veterans Day by Supporting Our Veterans!

Dear Mayor:

The GI Go Fund is a New Jersey based 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that provides assistance to all military veterans, with a focus on veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, by helping them find employment, access housing, and secure their educational and health benefits.

The Fund was founded in 2006 following the death of Army Lt. Seth Dvorin, a close friend to the organization’s co-founders, from an IED blast in Iraq. The organization began as a small community group, which aimed to preserve the memory of their friend by providing days of rest and relaxation to our nation’s veterans. However, as they began to spend time with these men and women, they came to understand that vets’ problems and fears did not end the minute they returned home, but instead had just begun.

As they came to understand the magnitude of the problems that plagued the veterans’ world, they began to expand their efforts, working with veterans to help them collect their VA benefits, provide financial assistance to low income and homeless veterans, and assist in their search for steady employment and the college of their choice.

Since its inception, the Fund helped tens of thousands of veterans throughout New Jersey and across the country receive the assistance they need. The Fund envisions a long future of helping all American veterans in their struggle to return home with honor.

A major fund-raiser for the GI Go Fund is the annual Jeans for Troops Drive, held on or close to Veterans’ Day. Brick Township Councilwoman Heather deJong is a strong advocate for this effort and has taken the lead in enrolling the Township for participation in Jeans for Troops. Brick Mayor John Ducey contacted us to see if we could help to spread the word.

To be a part of this, employers collect $5 donations from participating employees to benefit the GI Go Fund to further the mission of supporting Military Personnel and Veterans, and allow participating employees to wear jeans to work on Wednesday, November 12 for "GI Go Jeans for Troops Day" in honor of Veterans Day. The Fund will provide each participant with a sticker to be worn on their shirt to show their support. The stickers are provided to the program administrators free of charge. If November 12 is not a suitable date, you may choose another date. The registration deadline is Friday, October 31!

Please support the GI Go Fund and the countless Veterans we serve by joining thousands of schools, agencies, organizations, and companies participating in our Jeans for Troops Drive in honor of Veterans Day. To register, just go to the website at http://www.gigofund.org/jeans/jeansfortroops.html.

After you register, you will receive a confirmation email. You will then be mailed your Jeans for Troops kit, which includes stickers (at no cost) for your participants, along with program instructions, as soon as possible. If you have any questions or if you would like to register over the phone, please contact a GI Go Representative by calling 866-389-GIGo (4446) Ext 1.

Thanks for considering this great program.

Very truly yours,

William G. Dressel, Jr.
Executive Director
